About Kathesar

Kathesar is a quarterly magazine devoted to the short story in Rajasthani. It is published from Parlika (Nohar), Rajasthan, and every three months brings readers new and classic Rajasthani fiction, criticism, conversations and translations.

The story of the name

When the idea of a fiction magazine came up in 2011, finding a title took months. Ramswaroop Kisan, Dr. Satyanarayan Soni and Pramod Kumar Sharma tried new names every day without finding the right one.

Then they remembered that in Rajasthani a poet is called kavīsar: kavi (poet) joined with īsar (lord, maker). Joining kathā (story) with īsar the same way gave a new word: Kathesar, the maker of stories, a storyteller. The word was born with the magazine; no dictionary had it before.
